Welcome to part four in the 6-part series of Six Seasons Trails. Embark on a journey through Bungendore Park during the Djeran season, a time of transition marked by cooler nights and gentle southerly breezes.
This 10-kilometre trail winds through the jarrah-marri forests, wandoo woodlands, and groves of Banksias, Casuarinas, and parrot bushes that make Bungendore Park a sanctuary for rare flora and fauna. Along the way, listen for the calls of endangered cockatoos, and the songs of scarlet robins and honeyeaters. Be on the lookout for some of the park’s 38 species of reptiles and 10 species of frogs, adding to the rich biodiversity that defines this area.
Bungendore Park, whose name means “place of gum blossom” and “top of hill,” was once a significant hunting ground for the Whadjuk people. As you explore, you’ll discover the stories embedded in its landscape and gain insight into the cultural and natural rhythms of this season.
