Skip to contentThe Perth Hills isn’t just a place—it’s a feeling. It’s the scent of jarrah after the rain, the crunch of dirt underfoot, and the rush of standing on a ridgeline, looking out over an endless sea of forest. It’s waterfalls tumbling through ancient valleys, wildflowers bursting to life along the trail, and crisp morning air filling your lungs.
Perth Hills WanderFest is your chance to experience it all. This five-trail hiking series—brought to life by Perth Hills Tourism Alliance and Destination Perth, takes you deep into the heart of the region.
WanderFest Serpentine Jarrahdale – Kitty’s Gorge Trail for Experienced Hikers
The advanced 16km return Kitty’s Gorge Trail is for those ready to push their limits, tackling rugged terrain, steep climbs, and long stretches of uninterrupted wilderness, all leading to the breathtaking Serpentine Falls.
As part of the Perth Hills WanderFest Hills series, this fully guided hike will take you deep into the heart of the Darling Scarp, starting from Jarrahdale Cemetery and winding through the Gooralong Valley, where towering jarrah and marri forests frame the trail. The sounds of Gooralong Brook and the Serpentine River follow you as you climb higher, navigating granite outcrops, rocky switchbacks, and lush valleys teeming with life.
This is a hike for those who love a challenge—the kind of trail where your legs will feel the burn, but the views make every step worth it. Along the way, expect steep sections, uneven ground, and a mix of loose gravel and compact dirt, with plenty of spots to pause, reset, and take in the sweeping views.
Led by an experienced guide, you’ll get to know the landscape as you move—learning about the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this part of the Perth Hills. Keep an eye out for quendas rustling in the undergrowth, Carnaby’s black cockatoos soaring overhead, and bursts of vibrant wildflowers, including native orchids and bright yellow wattle.
The payoff? The halfway rest will have you dipping your toes into the iconic Serpentine Falls, where water cascades over ancient granite into a deep, emerald-green pool. After a well-earned break, you’ll retrace your steps back through the gorge, soaking in the raw beauty of one of WA’s most unforgettable hiking trails.
If you’re up for the challenge, this is one for the books.
The Perth Hills WanderFest series is proudly supported by the WA State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries, helping to create vibrant, inclusive, and connected WA communities through outdoor adventure.
