Perth Hills Mundaring Summer School Holidays Bucket List

If you’re looking to beat the heat this summer school holidays, without hiding indoors, head for the shady, tree-lined spots around Mundaring. This Perth Hills region is the perfect base for long, lazy days with the kids – with just enough adventure thrown in to tire them out!

Start your day lakeside at beautiful Lake Leschenaultia. Arrive early to claim a shady spot under a gum tree on the sandy beach. Then swim, paddle or float the day away before enjoying a relaxed family picnic by the water. As the sun dips, swap bathers for hoodies and head to Kookaburra Cinema, where you can tuck into a choc top under the stars – a magical way to end a warm summer’s night.

When it’s really hot, slow the pace. Spread out a picnic rug in a shady park with a playground (Mundaring Community Sculpture Park and Morgan John Morgan Park are just two favourites) and let the kids run wild while you relax. Or bask in the leafy beer garden of a heritage hotel with a cold drink (or two!) in hand while you soak up the Perth Hills vibes.

How about a fun workshop in air-conditioned comfort? Artist and educator Anne Farrell from The Pencil Case Art Studio is holding a hands-on creative workshop at Mundaring Arts Centre.

For active families, set the alarm and get out early. Wander a bush trail at dawn or dusk and keep your eyes peeled for kangaroos, or hit an MTB trail for an energising early morning bike ride. Later in the day, cool off with a refreshing dip at Bilgoman Aquatic Centre’s sparkling pools.

If you’re keen to try something new, give disc golf a go at Mundaring Sporting Club – it’s easy to learn, fun for all ages, and a great way to spend a few hours.

Keep out of the heat of the day, get up early, or enjoy an evening activity. There is plenty to do in Perth Hills Mundaring with kids, this summer.
