Skip to contentOn your way from Gidgegannup to Mundaring, be sure to stop by Lake Leschenaultia. This man-made water body is a hub of outdoor activity; from walk trails to a mountain bike network, canoeing, picnicking and swimming – there’s even a campground.
Afterwards, head to the Perth Hills Mundaring Visitor Centre, in the heart of town. Here local experts will guide you to all there is to see, do and eat in the area. Next door, at the Mundaring District Museum there’s a curated local history display, while just across the road the Mundaring Arts Centre always has an inspiring exhibition to check out.
Take a short wander to the Mundaring Sculpture Park. Children will love the adventure playground, and the leafy spot is perfect for a picnic. The park is the northern terminus for the world-renowned Munda Biddi Trail.
Local icon, the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, passes through the Sculpture Park. This 41km loop re-traces the route of the old Eastern Railway line, linking Mundaring and its surrounding villages with a walking and cycling trail. The track also doubles as the Pedal and Pint Trail, linking the region’s heritage pubs and cafes – making for a fun pre-lunch activity.
Take the trail through to John Forrest National Park, the state’s oldest national park. Popular for its hiking and biking tracks, keep a look out for native birds, seasonal wildflowers, winter waterfalls and kangaroos bouncing through the bush. Be sure to take a walk through the historic (and some say haunted!) Swan View Tunnel too.
Weekend markets pop-up all-around Mundaring and its surrounding villages. There’s something for everyone with gardening goods, food trucks, local crafts, fresh produce and even vegan-friendly wares.
Head south to the fascinating CY O’Connor Precinct at Mundaring Weir. Here there’s trails, picnic spots, a playground and the iconic weir wall to take a wander across. Tales of the Golden Pipeline can be found at the No1 Pump Station.
In Mundaring and surrounds there are many options for an overnight stay, from simple campsites and chalets to rustic cottages, historic hotels and luxe adults only retreats.
