We love a Perth Hills trail – especially when the promise of a cold pint and a hearty meal is never far away. Knowing that a welcoming tavern awaits, definitely helps to get you over that last steep gravel hill, with boots a little muddy and sporting a well-earned appetite. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, wildflowers, or just a well-poured local brew, these trail-and-tavern duos prove that the best adventures end with good food, great company, and memories made in the Perth Hills. Here’s our pick of where to hike and hydrate:
Noble Falls Tavern & Noble Falls Reserve
Take a stroll and sip at Noble Falls Reserve’s gentle, family-friendly loop (about 3.5km) that’s especially stunning in wildflower season. The trail meanders along Wooroloo Brook, past the picturesque falls, and through open woodland alive with cockatoos and kangaroos. After your stroll, cross the road to the Noble Falls Tavern – a true-blue country pub with beer garden, delicious wood-fired pizzas, and a menu that has all the pub classics.

Mount Helena Tavern & Railway Reserves Heritage Trail
The Mount Helena Tavern is a Perth Hills institution, oozing with rustic charm. It’s the perfect pit stop on the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, a 41km loop that traces the old Eastern Railway line through forests, tunnels, and historic Mundaring villages. The section from Parkerville to Mount Helena is a scenic, manageable stretch, ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. At the Mount Helena Tavern, reward yourself with a classic parmi or their epic smash burgers and maybe a little live music in the grassy beer garden.

If you’re keen to combine pedal power with pub culture, the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail doubles as the “Pedal & Pint Trail”, a self-guided cycling route linking several Perth Hills’ taverns (including The Mundaring Hotel, Mahogany Inn & Distillery, Chidlow Tavern and The Parkerville Tavern).

Kalamunda Hotel & a Bite of the Bibbulmun Track
Go from bush to bar in Kalamunda – the northern gateway to the legendary Bibbulmun Track, a 1000km epic stretching all the way to Albany. You don’t need to go the distance to get a taste. Start at the Northern Terminus and follow the well-marked trail through towering jarrah, granite outcrops, and wildflower-strewn gullies. Even a short section feels like a proper adventure. Back in town, the Kalamunda Hotel awaits opposite the trail head with its heritage façade, hearty pub classics, and shady courtyard. It’s the perfect place to refuel, swap stories, and plan your next section of the Bibbulmun.

Last Drop Elizabethan & Settlers Common East
Step into a slice of ye olde England at the Last Drop Elizabethan, a Tudor-style pub with its own microbrewery and a menu stacked with British comfort food (the brisket filled mini-Yorkshire puddings are delicious). Affectionately known as “The Lizzy”, it’s one of our favourite spots for a little “nature and nosh”. First explore Settlers Common East, just a 3-minute drive away. The network of easy trails showcases the area’s wildflowers and sweeping scarp views. The walks offer something for every energy level. After your walk, settle in by the fireplace (or in the sunny beer garden) with a house-brewed ale and a classic bangers and mash lunch.

Jarrahdale Tavern & Stacey’s Loop / Kitty’s Gorge Trail
In historic Jarrahdale, the Jarrahdale Tavern has been welcoming weary travellers since 1894. The nearby Stacey’s Loop is a gentle 3km circuit, while the more ambitious Kitty’s Gorge Trail (14km return) follows Gooralong Brook through lush forest, past waterfalls and wildflowers to Serpentine Falls. Whichever you choose, the tavern is the perfect place to unwind and rest your feet with a hearty meal, and a well-earned pint in the garden.

Mundaring Weir Hotel & O’Connor Trail
Few places capture the history of the Perth Hills like the Mundaring Weir Hotel. Perched close to the iconic dam, this grand old pub is famous for its historical futures, Sunday sessions, live music events, and pub-style fare. The nearby O’Connor Trail (5.3km loop) takes you from Mundaring Weir Hall along a scenic bite of the Bibbulmun Track to the Weir View Lookout. Or simply take a stroll across the dam wall. After your hike, find a cosy spot at the hotel, and relax with a wine by the fireplace.

Masonmill Gardens (Irish Beer Garden) & Victoria Dam
For something a little different, head to Masonmill Gardens, tucked away in the Bickley Valley. The Irish-themed beer garden is a lively spot, complete with Guinness on tap, live music (on weekends), and a tasty menu too. Before you settle in, tackle the nearby Victoria Dam Walk – a 7.2km loop that winds through jarrah forest, to the impressive dam wall. The view is spectacular and you’ll even see the original dam wall too. Afterwards, reward yourself with a pint of the black stuff and lunch with a beautiful view over the Masonmill rose gardens.

Seven Sins & Roley Pools
Seven Sins in Roleystone is technically not a tavern, but since it serves up top German style beers, and has a stunning outdoor area perched on the edge of the Perth Hills, we couldn’t resist including it. Pair your meal with a wander through Roley Pools Reserve, where the Canning River tumbles over rocks and through tranquil pools that are begging for you to dip a toe into. The walking trails here are short but sweet, winding through lush bushland and past rocky cascades that are especially beautiful in late winter and early spring. After your stroll, treat yourself to a long lunch at Seven Sins – think crispy pork knuckles, WA seafood linguini, and decadent desserts, with a side of valley views.

Kiln Ale House & Byford Hills Trail
Byford’s Kiln Ale House is a newcomer with serious craft beer credentials and a relaxed, family-friendly vibe. Found close by is The Byford Hills Trail – a 2.7km hike that takes in jarrah forest, wildflowers, sweeping views over the coastal plain and the pretty Macora Falls that spring to life after a heavy downpour of rain. It’s a great option for a morning walk before settling in at the Kiln for a tasting paddle and a wood-fired pizza.

Be sure to explore the walks and welcoming pubs that make this region a favourite for locals and visitors alike. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a Sunday stroller, the Perth Hills serve up the perfect blend of trails and tipples at taverns for everyone.
