This month, the Perth Hills are surrounded by spring. With school holidays in full swing and sunnier days ahead, now is a great time to explore the Perth Hills. Take a bushwalk, wander a heritage town, enjoy a picnic or bask in a beer garden. October is the perfect time to delve into art and events, with iconic country shows, to artist’s opening their studio doors, a German-themed food festival and more, there’s so much to experience in the Perth Hills this spring.
Here’s our round up of things to experience in the Perth Hills this October.
GIDGEGANNUP
Country charm meets all the fun of the fair at the Gidgegannup Show, happening Saturday 25 October. Expect a full day of rural show action with wood-chopping and horse events, prize-winning produce, crafty stalls, classic cars, live music and hearty eats, plus plenty to keep the little ones busy. Wander the stalls, catch the action, then refuel with food-truck favourites. It’s a wholesome kind of day where the Gidge community spirit shines.

MUNDARING
Whim Festival pops up in Mount Helena on Sunday 26 October with a free, family-friendly day of music, makers and community spirit. Expect live blues, jazz and rock across the day, market stalls from Perth Hills small businesses, and a History Zone to dive into local heritage and swap stories with longtime residents. Fuel up on food vans, sausage sizzles, ice cream and coffee, meet community groups, and let the kids loose on hands‑on, free activities. Bring the family for a feel‑good day out. Find out more here.

KALAMUNDA
Artrooms Kalamunda Open Studios returns on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, celebrating 21 years with fresh faces and fresh spaces. This year, there are several new artists joining the trail and some favourites unveiling brand-new studios. Wander between painters and weavers; ceramicists; sculptors, metalworkers, mixed-media experimenters and more. The event is a great opportunity to meet makers, peeking at their process and discovering the talent tucked into this pocket of the Perth Hills. Plot your path with an easy-to-use map – download from the website or collect one from the Zig Zag Cultural Centre. Then spend a day (or two) studio-hopping and soaking up plenty of art-y inspiration. Find out more here.

ARMADALE
Dust off the lederhosen because Oktoberfest is hitting the Perth Hills. Last Drop Elizabethan is pouring the fun at Last Drop‑Toberfest with live music, German bites, games, cocktails and, naturally, plenty of beer. Over at Seven Sins, their annual Oktoberfest returns to the Sunset Garden on 25–26 October for two days of steins, tunes, good vibes, views and of course, top German-style food. Bookings are essential and sell out fast. Prost!

SERPENTINE-JARRAHDALE
There’s always something new to discover at the SJ Farmers Market. Saturday mornings are for the weekly market found in Mundijong. Each week brings a fresh line up of artisans and food trucks alongside plenty of local growers piled high with just‑picked seasonal produce. Think crisp greens, fragrant herbs, orchard fruit and farm‑fresh eggs. No two visits are ever the same. Wander the stalls, grab a coffee and a bite, stock the pantry and soak up the community vibe. Find out more here.
Be sure to enjoy something new in the Perth Hills this month – they’re closer than you think!
