Kalamunda Open Studios started as an idea between two friends, renowned local artists Cedric Baxter and Dan Mazzotti. Living, working, and teaching in Kalamunda, but known and respected as artists both interstate and overseas, they were in a unique position to understand the inspirational pull that the Hills environment can exert on the creative mind, and to gather together many of the professional artists who made the City of Kalamunda their home.
Beginning in 2004, Kalamunda Open Studios aimed to encourage diverse audiences, showcase local talent and promote the arts by making the artists more accessible. 20 years later the event is still providing insight, access and support to new generations of artists and art lovers. Throughout this 20th anniversary year, artists will be looking back and celebrating many of the wonderful artists who have been part of this phenomenon, and showcasing the extraordinarily talented people who live and work in this beautiful part of the world.
Maps will be available, and can be either downloaded and printed from the website, or collected from the Zig Zag Cultural Centre, City Offices and many local businesses.

The Perth Hills Tourism Alliance (PHTA) acknowledge the Noongar people of the “boodja”, the land on which we stand, work and play. We acknowledge the Aboriginal people as the First Nation People and their connection to the lands and the waters, as they are part of them spiritually and culturally. We acknowledge their ancestors, the Elders past and present, who have led the way for us to follow in their footsteps and the emerging leaders of today and tomorrow.
