There’s always something new to discover at Kalamunda Artisan Markets, held on the first Saturday of every month in the centre of town. This lively market showcases local artisans and their unique handmade. Stroll through the market, where there’s everything from handcrafted jewellery and textiles to paintings, woodwork and ceramics. Meet local artists, learn about their processes, and take home a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

The Kalamunda Open Studios spring event is coming soon! Held on the weekend of October 12 and 13, this is a wonderful opportunity for art enthusiasts to visit local artists where the magic happens -in their studios. Now in its 20th year, the event features a diverse array of artistic styles, from contemporary to traditional, giving visitors an eclectic view of the Kalamunda art scene. Plus, it’s a great chance to meet the creators behind the art, hear their stories, and pick up a piece of art for yourself.

For those who enjoy a more intimate art experience, the Mundaring Hills Open Studios is perfect. This year local artists in the Mundaring area are throwing open their studio doors from October 19 to 27. This popular event invites you to get curious and explore the studios of local artists. You’ll get a unique glimpse into the creative processes of painters, sculptors, and other artisans. It’s a wonderful way to connect, ask questions, and gain insights into their artistic journey. Plus, many artists have pieces available for purchase, so you can take home a piece of the Perth Hills!

For those chilly or hot days when you still want to enjoy the local arts scene, the Perth Hills Artisan Markets, found indoors at Mundaring Arena, is the perfect day out. Stroll through stalls filled with unique handmade crafts, artworks, jewellery and textiles. With a rotating lineup of vendors, every visit offers something new, making it a great way to support local talent. The next event promises to be an extra special Christmas market, on Dec 14 and 15.

Held annually, Darlington Arts Festival is a celebration of art and culture in the picturesque Perth Hills village of Darlington. This event takes place over the weekend of November 2 & 3. The festival transforms Darlington into a bustling hub of creativity, with art displays, live performances, and art workshops for all ages. Plus, it’s fast becoming known for its unique “Sculpture on the Scarp” sculpture walk through the bush.

Armadale Hills Arts Trail Open Studios, held November 8 to 17, showcases the rich artistic talent of the Armadale region. Get hands-on at Faire & Co! This creative Kalamunda hub offers fun workshops and creative activities for all ages. This inspiring space is perfect for both beginners and seasoned artists, featuring classes on painting and other crafts. Not only can you unleash your creativity, but you’ll also have the chance to socialise with other art lovers and maybe even make new friends.

Grab a map from the Kalamunda Visitor Centre and take a wander on the Kalamunda ArtWalk. The self-guided walking tour explores the rich tapestry of public art scattered throughout Kalamunda’s town centre. This trail features marvellous murals, stunning sculptures, and many inspiring installations that reflect the community’s culture and history. Spend a leisurely couple of hours wandering the streets, soaking in the art, stopping for a coffee and discovering arty gems around every corner.

Similarly, Armadale Urban Art Trail invites you to explore the town’s vibrant street art scene. This trail showcases impressive murals and creative installations (some by renowned international artists) that breathe life into the urban landscape. One of the must-visit galleries in the Perth Hills is the Zig Zag Gallery, located at Kalamunda’s architect-designed Zig Zag Cultural Centre. There is an ever-changing line up of exhibitions by local and regional artists, ensuring that there’s always something new to discover.

The Mundaring Arts Centre, found in the Old Post Office, is an impressive space that offers exhibitions, workshops, and a beautifully curated gift shop. Two gallery spaces feature new exhibitions bi-monthly, and be sure to treat yourself to contemporary jewellery, ceramics, textiles, art and illustrated children’s books, cards, paintings, or sculptures from the gallery shop.

Found in an old train carriage and located in central Kalamunda, adjacent to the History Village, The Wagon Kalamunda Arts & Crafts, is a quirky gallery and shop that celebrates local artisans. It is packed with a wide array of handmade crafts, and other artworks, all created by local talent.

Mundaring Weir Gallery, is a hop skip and jump to the iconic Mundaring Weir and Hotel. This quaint retail space, found in a charming heritage building, shows and sells the work of local artists. Visitors can also enjoy the serene surroundings of the Weir, and a bite to eat at the pub, making it a great day out.

Another gem is Juniper Galleries. This contemporary Darlington gallery features a selection of artworks by beloved late WA artist, Robert Juniper.
