Perth to Gidgegannup Self Drive

Escape the city and take a scenic drive up into the northern region of the Perth Hills via the Toodyay Road. The rural town of Gidgegannup has a lot to explore.

Start the day with a take-away coffee and fresh bake at Gidgegannup’s award-winning bakery, found in the centre of the townsite.

There are many bush trails to follow through Gidgegannup. For relatively easy walks under 4km, head to the red rocks of FR Berry Reserve or the popular Noble Falls – dogs are welcome here too. Late winter is the best time to tread these trails and to enjoy the stunning cascades in full flow.

For a more challenging trek, book a spot at Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary (open for hiking season, May to October. Fees apply). Here, there’s a choice of trails, including the 12km Numbat Trail. All three trails boast spectacular views and are packed with nature.

In spring, the Gidgegannup bushland comes alive with a vibrant show of native flowers. The region is well known for its wildflowers, and even has many certified Flora Roads (Berry Road and Reen Road are just a couple). Take the time to soak up and spot vibrant wildflowers – it’s like Mother Nature’s very own art show.

After a morning exploring the bush, put your feet up with a drink and hearty bite to eat at the local tavern, take-away or café.

Recharge overnight at Gidgegannup farm stay, cottage or tiny cabin. There are many boutique accommodation options that offer up stunning farmland and bushland views, plus cosy log fires and fire pits in winter.
