What’s New in the Perth Hills this August

August is here, and before we hop on the slippery slope to the end of the year, we’re soaking up every last bit of winter! Pull on your jacket and tread a trail to a waterfall (keeping your eyes peeled for wildflowers starting to bloom), followed by a hearty lunch by a fire. From a new gourmet spot to a bike event with a difference, guided hikes and delicious foodie finds, there’s plenty to discover in the Perth Hills this month. Here’s what to experience this August:

GIDGEGANNUP
A trip to the northern Perth Hills trails is even sweeter this month, with almond croissants and the new Pain au Pistachio back on weekends at Gidgegannup Bakery and Café. We think the flaky Danish pastry is the perfect reward after a wander around Noble Falls or a morning exploring the region’s bush trails. Grab a coffee, a pastry and enjoy one of the Hills’ most delicious little stops. Find out more here.

KALAMUNDA
There’s a delicious new reason to stop by Masonmill Café and Bar. The Carmel Common has arrived, filled with local artisan gourmet products, thoughtful gifts, fresh sourdough, coffee, ice cream and satisfyingly cheesy “knuckle sandwich” toasties. It’s all conveniently located next to the mini golf, making it an easy stop for families, foodies and anyone in need of a little treat. Plus, the Masonmill Local Markets are back on 15 August – the perfect excuse to make a day of it. Find out more here.

MUNDARING
Orienteering with a difference is coming to Lake Leschenaultia this month – on a bike! The MTBO 5 event on 9 August combines mountain biking, navigation and a little strategy as riders make their way through the scenic bushland and trail network. With courses for a range of abilities, it’s a fun way to explore this much-loved Chidlow spot from a whole new angle. Afterwards, refuel at Cafe Chidlow, or enjoy a picnic by the lake.
