Start your wildflower search at John Forrest National Park – a wildflower wonderland. As WA’s oldest national park, it’s a haven for wildflower enthusiasts. The park’s walking trails are lined with native blooms like kangaroo paws, wattles, and delicate orchids. The 4.6km Wildflower Walk Trail is lined with a variety of wildflowers, be sure to take a short detour to Hovea Falls too. You can expect challenges along the way, with short steep sections and slippery surfaces on the moderately difficult track. A national park fee applies if entering the park by car.

The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, which runs right through John Forrest National Park, stretches over 40km, but even a short stroll along the former Eastern Railway track will reward you with wildflower sightings. The peaceful path winds through bushland, heritage rail bridges, station platforms and the Swan View tunnel – and you’ll see plenty of wildflowers wherever you pick up the trail. Falls Park, near Parkerville, is a great spot to find native orchids.

Beelu National Park is another gem. Wander through the Jarrah forests, close to Mundaring Weir, along the 3.5km Portagabra Track and keep an eye out for striking native species like wild Hovea. The peaceful surroundings make it a perfect spot for a quiet afternoon in nature.

Don’t miss a trip to the lovely Lake Leschenaultia. Known for its peaceful waters and family friendly amenities, the surrounding bushland bursts into colour during wildflower season. Take a leisurely 3km stroll or ride around the flat lake loop, and you’ll find its namesake, vibrant blue Leschenaultia.

While you’re exploring, please be sure to always admire the wildflowers without picking them. These delicate beauties play a vital role in the ecosystem and leaving them undisturbed ensures that they’ll be there for others to enjoy for many more wildflower seasons to come.
