After a sunny end to autumn, winter is here and hopefully there will be plenty of rain to get those winter waterfalls started! It’s time to rug up, lace up, tread a trail, and get cosy in the Perth Hills.

June is when the Perth Hills come back to life with green valleys, lush forests, trickling creeks and more. From lively winter festivals, to guided hikes, new art exhibitions and even a muddy good time for the family, the Perth Hills has plenty of new things to check out this month.

Here’s our round up of things to experience in the Perth Hills this June.

GIDGEGANNUP

This June, experience the natural wonders of Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary with two exceptional guided hikes through one of Perth’s most beautiful private sanctuaries. Feeling up to a challenge? On June 15, Off the Beaten Track WA leads adventurers along the challenging 12km Numbat Trail, featuring steep granite slopes, boardwalks, lots of steps and breathtaking views of Paruna Gorge. Later in the month, on June 28, The Hike Collective offers a moderate 6.5km wander on the Quenda Trail, winding through Wandoo woodlands with spectacular valley vistas. You’ll be sure to spot native wildlife including Chuditch, Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo, and small marsupials in their natural habitat. Bookings are essential for these popular Perth Hills adventures.

MUNDARING

Everyone can appreciate the intricate floral works of botanical paintings by artist Stacy Gardoll – even if you wouldn’t consider yourself ‘into” art. Her new exhibition celebrates the beauty, resilience, and diversity of Western Australia’s flora. Be sure to check the Stacy Gardoll Art Exhibition out at the Mundaring Arts Centre, opening on June 21. Her Eucalyptus blossom paintings are exquisite. Stacy is also leading a workshop on botanical painting in oils and acrylics, be sure to book.

KALAMUNDA

The winter edition of the Kalamunda Garden Festival will be held amongst the golden leaves of Stirk Park on Sunday, June 1. The much-loved event, staged on the first Sunday of each season, has plenty of workshops, stalls and entertainment to welcome winter. From expert guest speakers, gardening-related stalls and activities for the kids, the Kalamunda Garden Festival is a blooming lovely Perth Hills event.

ARMADALE

Warm up your winter nights at the Solstice Fireside Night Markets returning to Araluen Estate on Friday, June 20. This popular Perth Hills event features a spectacular bonfire, over 30 market stalls, food trucks, and a full bar serving warming mulled wine and wintery cocktails. Visitors can enjoy live entertainment including fire eating and spinning performances, stilt walkers, and even a snake charmer! The evening culminates in a special Solstice Ritual Fire Ceremony. There’s plenty for the kiddos too, including Fire & Ice Crown Craft by Freedom Fairies, while everyone can indulge at the S’mores Station. Be sure to grab a ticket, they are expected to sell out quickly.

SERPENTINE-JARRAHDALE

Unleash your wild side at the return of Muddy Buddies on June 28 & 29. This free family event invites kiddos to run, jump, roll, and create unforgettable muddy memories with very messy activities including mud pits, mud kitchens, messy play zones, and the legendary Mud Mountain! Hosted by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, this popular annual event promises wholesome outdoor fun for all ages. Be sure to secure your spot early as registrations are essential.
